One thing that keeps throwing me off track is unforeseen expenses. These seem to happen every month, for instance, last month, I had to buy a sofa bed because our old one wasn’t any good for our regular house guest. I also had an unexpected, fairly large, vet bill. I had been doing well at meeting my savings goals for the month until those expenditures came along. But these weren’t one offs. Something happens EVERY month that blows the budget off course. There is literally no such thing as an average month. Is this the same for everyone? Or is my luck just worse? Reassurance and insight needed please!

Absolutely, there is always something that comes up, that can’t be planned for.

The emergencies that you have to plan for! When renting out our home I factored in that before long I am going to have stump up for a new washing machine – it’s 5 yrs old and lasting beyond that (two kids lots of muddy sports kit) would be a pleasant surprise.
